In August 2020, SEED took a significant step towards enhancing the local housing market and stimulating economic growth by approving the Skinny Drive Development project. This initiative, led by Villafranca Construction Co., aimed to transform three lots of land on Skinny Drive into modern, single-family homes, each valued at over $200,000.

Recognizing the critical shortage of quality housing in Sweetwater—a barrier identified in the 2017 Sweetwater Housing Study—SEED partnered with Villafranca Construction Co. to ensure these new homes would be competitive with those in larger communities yet affordable within the local market. SEED provided up to $36,000 in funding to support this development.

The Skinny Drive Development provided high-quality housing options for Sweetwater and spurred economic benefits such as increased sales tax revenue through local purchasing of materials. This project exemplifies how strategic partnerships can drive residential growth and broader economic development, making Sweetwater more attractive for new businesses and residents.
