SISD Childcare Interlocal Agreement

In 2024, Sweetwater Independent School District (SISD) and SEED MDD collaborated to address a critical shortage of quality childcare in Sweetwater, Texas. With over 2,500 children under thirteen in Nolan County needing care, the SEED MDD committed $750,000 to expand licensed childcare facilities.

SISD already provides limited childcare for its employees and aims to expand its facility at Southeast Elementary School from 53 to 112 children. Through an Interlocal Agreement, SEED MDD agreed to fund the project up to $207,500.00 and reimburse SISD for renovations and furnishings.

By August 2024, SISD successfully increased its childcare capacity to 136, going above the required increase, benefiting local families and employers by enabling more parents to stay in or re-enter the workforce. This initiative demonstrated the power of collaboration between educational institutions and economic development bodies, showcasing how targeted community investments can yield widespread benefits.
