Georgia Pacific
Georgia Pacific, an Atlanta-based manufacturing giant, has significantly impacted Sweetwater’s economy through its gypsum wallboard production facility. With vital support from Sweetwater Economic Development (SEED), Georgia Pacific was able to reopen this plant, which now provides employment for 70 local residents. SEED facilitated this reopening by offering a financial incentive to cover local property taxes for five years, ensuring the plant’s viability and long-term success.
In December 2020, SEED further strengthened its partnership with Georgia Pacific by entering into a $2.5 million agreement to install a crucial waterline for the company’s new $300 million production facility. This infrastructure enhancement was essential in securing a reliable water supply, critical for the plant’s operations. The groundbreaking of this state-of-the-art facility marks a significant milestone in Sweetwater’s economic growth, promising to drive future employment opportunities and industrial expansion in the region.
