Sweetwater, Texas; Vulcan Materials Company has acquired a location in the BNSF Logistic Center in Sweetwater, Texas.  Vulcan (NYSE:VMC) is North America’s leading producer of construction aggregates, which consist of primarily crushed stone, sand and gravel.

Founded as a publicly traded company in 1956, Vulcan has operations in 20 states, the District of Columbia, Mexico, and the Bahamas.  Vulcan’s strategic locations serve 19 of the country’s top 25 metropolitan areas.  In Texas alone Vulcan has 43 locations, including the new Sweetwater yard.  According to Vulcan’s Director of Transportation and Logistics, Robert Chapman, “The Sweetwater location will put Vulcan Materials Company in a better position to support the infrastructure, commercial and residential growth in the Sweetwater area”.

Vulcan’s choice of this site further shows the ability of Sweetwater and its transportation infrastructure to handle expanded logistic roles.  As Sweetwater Economic Development's Executive Director Ken Becker stated ”With the presence of two “2” Class 1 railroads (BNSF and UP), a Shortline (TXOR), located on Interstate 20 and near Hwy 84 and Hwy 70, materials can be shipped in or out by rail or truck transportation.  Vulcan will better serve their West Texas customers from this site.”

Construction aggregates form the underpinnings of our cities, towns and transportation networks. Thousands of years ago, civilizations built entire cities with stone, sand and gravel, and many of these ancient structures exist today. - See more at: http://www.vulcanmaterials.com/construction-materials/products-and-services/construction-aggregates#sthash.RtFbMra5.dpuf
