Manufacturing Update - Fall 2016

Just a quick update from the manufacturing side of business. Most of you realize that you represent the "foundation" for our community. Manufacturing in the US may have fallen with hopes of picking back up. In Nolan County, manufacturing is "alive and well" as we have very strong companies and even better yet, we have very strong leadership in our manufacturing sector companies.

We have recently had a few leadership changes in the plant manager side of "2" of our businesses.

1) Georgia Pacific has named Rodney Hooker as the new plant manager. Rodney replaced Brent Quillan who was transferred to Oklahoma. "Welcome" to the manufacturing group Rodney! His email address is RLHOOKER@GAPAC.com

2) Buzzi Unicem USA Maryneal just named Jared Kupcak as the new plant manager replacing Richard Zimmel who retired. "Welcome" to the manufacturing group Jared! His email address is jared.kupcak@buzziunicemusa.com

3) Another update is that USG won the "Business of the Year" award at the annual membership banquet of The Chamber on Monday night. The award was given to USG Plant Manager Jeff Grimland by Jared Kupcak, Plant Manager of Buzzi, last years winner.

We need to be thinking about setting another manufacturing luncheon in the next 30-60 days. Is there anyone that would like to host a tour? Another option is to host a luncheon to discuss where our group is at, are there any issues that need to be addressed, do we have any speakers we would like to bring in, and how do we need to address the workforce issues?

For those of you that have been able to support our "2" ISD programs, "Thank You"! They are the "Speakers Bureau" and the "Senior Interview Days" . The more times we can put manufacturing professionals in front of ISD students, the better opportunity we have to capture the imagination and knowledge of a student looking for a career path. To learn more about these programs, contact Larissa in the SEED office at larissa@sweetwatertexas.net or by calling 235-0555.
